The corridors of schools in London will be ringing with the sound of more violins, clarinets and trumpets after a charity breakfast auction organised by the Mayor of London.
The event was a fundraiser for the Mayor of London’s Fund for Young Musicians, that targets providing 1,000 scholarships for disadvantaged young people in the capital by 2015.
Chairman of the London Symphony Orchestra’s Finance Board Mr. Christopher Moran attended the event along with other benefactors and together they raised over £140,000.
Speaking after the event Mr. Moran said, “I was very pleased to attend the charity breakfast auction this morning. Providing more opportunities to develop a love of music among young people can only enrich the cultural tapestry of London.
“In addition it is well established that those who learn and practice music develop their thinking skills, and when they perform in front of others it can boost self-esteem and confidence.
“I would like to thank Mayor of London Boris Johnson for the invitation and congratulate him on spearheading such an innovative programme.”
