Dr. Christopher Moran, Chairman of Co-operation Ireland, welcomes former Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland Sir George Hamilton to the Co-operation Ireland Board.
Sir George is the second appointment to the Co-operation Ireland board this year; former SDLP leader Margaret Ritchie joined in April.
Sir Hamilton received the Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) in 2015 and was made a knight bachelor (Kt) in Her Majesty’s 2019 Birthday Honours in June.
Also in June 2019, Sir Hamilton was awarded an honorary doctorate of laws (LLD) from Ulster University ‘for his outstanding contribution to policing with the community and for his leadership of the PSNI’.
Sir Hamilton said:
“I am looking forward to engaging with and supporting the work of Co-operation Ireland. The work being done by the charity building relationships across these islands has never been more important and I look forward to making a contribution.”
Co-operation Ireland chairman Dr Christopher Moran said:
“Sir George is a long-standing associate and friend. His vast experience will be invaluable to the work of Co-operation Ireland, and I am looking forward to working with him along with the other members of our distinguished board.”
