The Chairman of Co-operation Ireland Dr. Christopher Moran is delighted to announce the appointment of Sir Julian King KCVO CMG as a Director of Co-operation Ireland.

Sir Julian served as UK Ambassador to Ireland from 2009 to 2011 and then Director General of the Northern Ireland Office from 2011 to 2014.  He served as European Commissioner for the Security Union in Brussels from 2016 to 2019.  He was UK Ambassador to France in 2016.  Sir Julian joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1985.

Sir Julian during his time in Northern Ireland played a key role both in the historic State Visit of Her Majesty The Queen to Ireland in 2011 and in the ‘handshake’ meeting in 2012 between The Queen and the late Martin McGuinness, who was then Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland.

I worked closely on behalf of Co-operation Ireland with Sir Julian during his time on the Island of Ireland.  Sir Julian, with his career in London, Belfast, Dublin and Brussels, will be of great assistance to Co-operation Ireland in the resolution of the issues that lie ahead in order to fulfil Co-operation Ireland’s mission, aims, and objectives.

I am very pleased to be joining the board of Co-operation Ireland and working closely with the chairman and fellow directors.  I enjoyed my time on the Island of Ireland very much, and I look forward to helping this unique organisation work through the complex and perhaps difficult matters that will need to be resolved in the months and years ahead.
