Dr. Christopher Moran, Honorary President of Co-operation Ireland is a successful businessman and well-known public figure. He is the owner of Crosby Moran Hall in Chelsea, London. Besides his business interests, he has a strong commitment to wider society supporting institutions in a wide range of sectors including national heritage, the arts, architecture, health & well-being, faith, and international relations.
With an Irish father and British mother, Dr. Christopher Moran is keenly aware of the complex and historic ties between Great Britain and Ireland. As Honorary President of the peace-building charity Co-operation Ireland, having served as Chairman of the organisation for the last 18 years, he promotes peace and reconciliation under the joint patronage of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins.
With a lifetime passion for architectural heritage, he has funded and overseen the multimillion pound, 30-year rebuilding and restoration of Crosby Moran Hall. He has forensically restored the home of Richard III and Sir Thomas More to former glory and placed an important Tudor, Elizabethan, and Early Stuart collection back into its historical context. English Heritage has called Crosby Moran Hall “the most important surviving secular domestic Medieval building in London.”
A firm believer in inter-faith cohesion, he served for 15 years as Vice-Chairman and then as a Vice-President of the Council of Christians and Jews in their promotion of dialogue and understanding between faith communities under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
As Chairman for the last 20 years of University College London Hospitals Charitable Foundation, he delivers cutting-edge care for patients and families living with cancer and other life-threatening conditions. He has been substantially involved in building the state-of-the-art £110 million Macmillan Cancer Centre, which affords innovative ways of treating patients, together with cutting-edge translational research.
He played a major role in one of London’s cultural institutions, the London Symphony Orchestra, having chaired the Finance Board for 15 years and as a Trustee of the London Symphony Orchestra Endowment Trust.
He has advised one of Britain’s most important heritage projects, the Mary Rose Trust, supporting the development of a new, world-class museum for Henry VIII’s famous Tudor flagship.
He supported the work of His Majesty King Charles III when The Prince of Wales, as a member of The Prince’s Charities Council providing strategic advice to ensure the long-term sustainability of the charities and creating a wider network to support The King’s vision for the charities.
He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws from The University of Ulster for his commitment to wider society. He received the Freedom of the City from the City of London.
